Another Great Event and a Fond Farwell

During this last week in May, several One Brickers made another trip to NW Indiana to assist in the ongoing disaster flood relief that remains from the floods of Fall 2008. They gutted basements and stripped away mold. Pictures have been posted and can be found HERE

“You have no idea how much our help means to the folks of NW Indiana.” as said best by the event manager Dana.

Thank you again to the staff of Wendy’s in Munster Indiana for providing lunch for our volunteers during this hard working event.

A special thank you to Dana (aka Mr. Fun) whom managed his last event with One Brick Chicago as he has moved from Chicago to assist with the growth of his business. Dana has been with One Brick since 2005 and as not only served as Event Manager but also on several commitees including up to recently the Fundraising commitee. Dana will be missed by all of us at One Brick Chicago and we wish him the very best in his new adventure.

Memorial Day Weekend at CITY FARM!!

Thanks a bunch for giving your wonderful Saturday morning to One Brick and City Farm. As you can tell there was plenty of work to be done and so we appreciate your time and energy.  [Photos have been posted] so make sure you check them out as you search for future fun events on the web site.

May is practically over and the June event calendar is filling up fast. Check out the 1st annual scavenger hunt.

I also had a nice time getting to now those of you who were able to make it to Goose Island afterwards. I missed those who weren’t able to make it.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

My Experience At The Green Festival

Today a team of One Brickers served as memebers of the Green Team working behind the scenes of The Green Festival. The Green Team was responsible for ensuring all the garbage was separated and sent to the right facility; combustibles, recyclables, e-waste and landfill waste (the bin of shame).

Some quick facts, that I learned today:

Each person produces their body in trash per year yet on about 5lbs is landfill waste. Most still goes to landfills though.

The average shopper uses 500 plastic shopping bags a year; most of which are not recyclable.

While in Denver, The Green Festival served 22,000 attendees but, through the efforts of the Green Team, only sent 950 lbs to a landfill. That’s less than .01 lbs per person.

Working with The Green Team was an amazing experience for me as I learned so much. I can’t wait to do it again next year. I thanks all of those I worked with today for coming out on a Sunday morning to help out for a good cause. Especially Mike Zima whose came out for his first One Brick event today; while also carry a solar panel backpack…so cool! I want to leave you with a few pics of some of interesting things I saw at the Green Festival. Please a peek at them HERE

These are the types of moments in life that touch everyone. The music video above is the classic “Stand By Me” played by numerous performers from around the world. None of them have met even during recording but all of them were able to create thsi beautiful peice of music.

This is a great way to start a weekend.

As a reminder we still have spots available for our events this weekend. We hope to see you at one of them.

Words from Dr. Seuss

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.  It’s not.
