Another Great One Brick Event with ChildServ

Last night, a group of dedicated One Brickers took the time to assemble 125 packets of greeting cards that will be sold this holiday season. These weren’t just any greeting cards but greeting cards designed by the very kids ChildServ helps on a daily basis. It was a great event which was topped off by a very pleasant surprise as Jennfier from ChildServ presented the One Brick team with a plaque of appreciation for the many times OneBrickers have come out in support of ChildServ’s event.

Thank you ChildServ and Thank You OneBrickers….YOU ROCK!!

Move love for One Brick Chicago

“Thank you so much for your help last night for Safe Humane Chicago.  You seriously rocked.  We did NOT expect for a fraction of that work to get done, much less within the time frame provided.  We greatly, greatly appreciate it.  Your volunteers were amazing.  Please thank them for us.”

“I wanted to say thank you one more time for bringing your group to volunteer at This is ME’s Summer Fun Fair in Jefferson Park.  We honestly could not have pulled it off without the help of you and your volunteers.  Working with One Brick was a great experience, and we’re so, so pleased that you were able to come out.  Thanks again, and hopefully we can work together again in the future.”

Congrats to Lisa Nigro!

We here at One Brick Chicago HQ were thrilled to learn last week that Chicagoan Lisa Nigro was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal.  Lisa is the founder of Inspiration Cafe.

A former Chicago police officer, Lisa got a wagon, filled it with coffee and sandwiches, and distributed the sandwiches to homeless people in the Uptown neighborhood.  Over time, the wagon gave way to a van, then a bus, then a six-month lease in an Uptown storefront to set up a more permanent home for the Inspiration Cafe.  Twenty years later, Inspiration Corporation offers dignity and hope to homeless and impoverished people with the intent to promote self-sufficiency.

Lisa was honored with 12 other Americans at the White House, and was selected from 6,000 nominees.

Be Part of This Year’s Scavenger Hunt!!

That angelic chorus keeps singing to remind you that…

The Quest is on!

Join us on an urban adventure with “Quest for the One Brick—A Groupon Scavenger Hunt,” held on Sept. 4 to raise funds for One Brick Chicago.

Teams of 2-4 people will take to the streets to decode clues for checkpoints nestled t hroughout the city. As squads earn points along the way, they’ll compete for prizes while learning about One Brick’s non-profit partners and sampling some of Groupon’s featured businesses.

A post-Quest party rewards participants with 90 minutes of free beer & wine sponsored by Joe’s on Weed St. And in a move that’s sure to put a smile on the faces of our intrepid urban adventurers with sore calf muscles, 100% of the event’s proceeds will go directly back to the community by supporting One Brick’s mission.

But One Brick needs your help by August 27. If we reach at least 20 teams by August 27, 2010, then Groupon will sponsor this fundraiser to benefit One Brick.

So gather up your friend s, sign up at and get ready to compete for glory and honor (and oh, yeah – awesome prizes)!!
